How to Process CTP-S Thermal Plates for Maximum Run Length Developer temperature, replenishment, and bath discipline
Process the CTP-S at 23–25°C. This is not a suggestion. Thermal coatings are engineered for a specific activation window. Running at 26–27°C accelerates coating breakdown and reduces the plate's ability to hold fine dots under press stress.
💡 Best practice: Check the CTP plate developer temperature daily with a calibrated thermometer — not just the machine display.
The CTP-S requires dynamic replenishment of approximately 110–120 ml/m² and static replenishment of 60 ml/hour. Too low, and the developer exhausts — causing weak dots and premature wear. Too high, and you waste chemistry and risk over-development.
Monitor conductivity and pH regularly. Any drift is an early warning. Consistent CTP plate replenishment is what keeps the bath stable over long production runs.
Replace developer every two weeks or every 1,000–1,500 m², whichever comes first. Oxidation accelerates if the processor sits idle with the lid open overnight.
Replace the wire-wound filter regularly — 50–100 μm bore diameter. A clogged filter causes uneven development and streaking.
Rinse thoroughly. Residual developer continues to attack the coating. Apply gum to plates not used immediately. For storage of 7–30 days, use a dedicated plate preservative.
Daily developer checks and disciplined replenishment are what separate full rated life from premature failure. In thermal CTP processing, consistency is everything.
